Time is running out!

Time is running out for you to install an update to your Microsoft Windows PC. This year new changes to Daylight Savings time go into effect. This year daylight saving time will begin three weeks earlier, on the second Sunday in March, and is extended by one week to the first Sunday in November. The automated date/time software in your PC knows about daylight savings but it doesn't know about the changes. Microsoft has published an update to fix this change but has not included it in its Critical updates. If you want your PC to correctly show the time, label documents, start scheduled jobs etc. when we spring forward then you must manually install this update. It is update number KB928388 and you can find it in the Custom/Optional updates at the Microsoft Windows™ Updates web site.

Quick Tip-Bit: To get Update KB928388:

  1. Open Internet Explorer, then look for the Tools menu.
  2. In the Tools drop down choose Windows Update. If you have never been to this website you may be asked to install several ActiveX programs before it will work properly.
  3. When you see the Welcome to Windows Update screen choose the Custom button.
  4. After searching your PC for optional updates a count of Software, Optional and Hardware, Optional updates will appear in the left column. Click on the Software, Optional link to see the available updates.
  5. You will need to check the box next to KB928388 to select it for downloading. Click on the plus sign to see a description of each update.
  6. After this you will need to click on the Install Updates link in the left column, and then click on the Install Updates button that appears in the center area.

This is a quick download and install.

You may be surprised at the number of optional updates you can install. If everything is working fine on your PC then I would not install any others. I have often seen problems with installing new video card drivers. If you have any questions please call Dean Hancy at 763-360-2163.
